Skupina Black Sabbath vznikla v roku 1968. Dňa 26. marca pre Seventh Star Tour skupina musela zmeniť pôvodného speváka, lebo Hughes, po úraze po bitke s manažérom Johnom Downeyom, bol neschopný spievať.<ref name="popoff165">{{harvbz|Popoff|2011|p=165}}</ref><ref>{{harvbz|McIver|2016|p=103}}</ref> Nahradil ho [[Ray Gillen]], ktorý mal na pódiu debut s kapelou dňa 29. marca.<ref>{{harvbz|McIver|2016|p=104}}</ref> Pri produkovaní nasledujúceho albumu, ktorým bol ''[[The Eternal Idol]]'', sa zostava členov Black Sabbath menila viackrát: najprv dňa 30. septembra 1986 [[Bob Daisley]] nahradil Spitza. Keď mal kompletne nahraté basové stopy pre album, tak 11. novembra od kapely odišiel. Eric Singer od kapely odišiel 1. januára 1987, ptom ako dokončil nahrávanie bicích nástrojov. Nakoniec, 1. marca na Gillenove misto prišiel ďaľší spevák, [[Tony Martin (spevák)|Tony Martin]].<ref name="popoff165" /> Niekedy v čase Martinovho príchodu sa k skupine vrátil aj Bevan.<ref name="mciver110">{{harvbz|McIver|2016|p=110}}</ref> V rámci prípravy na vystúpenie v júli kapela krátko cvičila s pôvodným basgitaristom Butlerom,<ref name="popoff165" /> no on v priebehu niekoľkých dní znovu odišiel ana jeho miesto prišiel Spitz.<ref name="popoff166">{{harvbz|Popoff|2011|p=166}}</ref> Bevan po jedinom koncerte z turné odišiel, lebo mal problém s vystupovaním v krajine [[Apartheid|apartheidu]], v [[Južná Afrika (štát)|Juhoafrickej republike]]. After the tour in promotion of ''Tyr'', Butler returned to the band.<ref name="popoff268">{{harvbz|Popoff|2011|p=268}}</ref> Despite rumours of an original reunion lineup, it was Dio who took over from Martin on vocals in January 1991.<ref name="mciver118" /> Within a few months, however, Martin was reinstated after Dio and Iommi disagreed over the vocalist's desire to bring back Vinny Appice and reunite the ''[[Mob Rules (album)|Mob Rules]]'' lineup.<ref name="popoff268" /> Dio eventually did return with Appice later in the year, replacing Martin and Cozy Powell respectively, and the lineup released ''[[Dehumanizer]]'' in 1992.<ref name="popoff268" /> At the end of the resulting tour, however, Dio left after refusing to perform at two shows in November supporting original vocalist Osbourne, who had announced his retirement. Po ňom znovu od kapely odišiel Buttler.
