The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time (500 najlepších albumov všetkých čias) je zoznam, ktorý v novembri 2009 uverejnil časopis Rolling Stone. Tento zoznam je výsledkom hlasovania 273 rockových hudobníkov, hudobných kritikov a predstaviteľov hudobného priemyslu, z ktorých každý pridal 50 tipov na album.

Žánrovo je tento zoznam rozptýlený do popu, rocku, ska, soulu, blues, folku, džezu, je v ňom zastúpený aj hip hop, sú v ňom albumy, kde sú kombinované všetky menované štýly. Firma Ernst & Young, ktorá výsledok voľby vyhodnotila oznámila, že do zoznamu sa dostalo 1 600 hudobných titulov.

V roku 2009 bola vydaná knižná publikácia The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, ktorej predslov napísal americký hudobník Steven Van Zandt (okrem iného hráva v sprievodnej kapele Bruce Springsteena). Podľa predhovoru boli zo zoznamu v tomto knižnom vydaní vyradené niektoré kompilácie a dva albumy Roberta Johnsona boli spojené do jedného s názvom The Complete Recordings. Vďaka týmto úpravám sa vytvorilo miesto pre zaradenie ďalších ôsmich albumov.

Podobne ako pri iných podobných zoznamoch časopisu Rolling Stone, väčšina albumov pochádza z britskej a severoamerickej hudobnej produkcie. Iba dva albumy sú z neanglofónnych krajín: Trans-Europe Express, od nemeckej kapely Kraftwerk (#253) a kubánska nahrávka Buena Vista Social Club (#260). V prvej desiatke albumov sú nosiče, ktoré boli nahraté v 60. a 70. rokoch a iba päť interpretov ženského pohlavia má svoje albumy v prvej stovke. V zozname 500 najlepších albumov všetkých čias časopisu Rolling Stone sa nachádza niekoľko kompilácií (teda aj Greatest hits) a soundtrackov.
