Katedrála bola postavená v rokoch [[1654]] až [[1658]] počas panovania Kostantina I. Serbana Basaraba. Sú v nej uložené relikvie sv. Demetria Nového, patróna hlavného mesta [[Rumunsko|Rumunska]] Bukurešť. Patrónmi chrámu sú svätý [[Konštantín]] (cisár) a jeho matka [[svätá Helena]].
