McCartneyho skladba ''[[Yesterday]]'' (podpísaná podľa ústnej dohody s partnerom [[John Lennon|Johnom Lennonom]] menami obidvoch autorov - [[Lennon-McCartney]]) je podľa [[Guinessova kniha rekordov|Guinessovej knihy rekordov]] najvyužívanejšou piesňou v dejinách populárnej hudby. Samotný McCartney je považovaný za najúspešnejšieho hudobného skladateľa všetkých čias.
V poslednej dobe sa mu podarilo prekonať ďalší rekord - najrýchlejšie vypredaný koncert. Na jeho koncert, ktorý sa uskutočnil [[30. október|30. októbra]] [[2005]] v [[Omaha|Omahe]], boli lístky vypredané počas 14 minút.

Paul McCartney sa narodil írskym rodičom (James McCartney a Mary Patricia Molinová). Spoločne s bratom Michaelom (tiež sa snažil sa hudobne presadiť pod pseudonymom Mike McGear, ale nie príliš úspešne) boli vychovávaní v katolíckej viere. Matka zomrela na rakovinu prsníka, keď mal Paul 14 rokov. V detstve mu otec kúpil prvú gitaru a keďže predtým sám hral na trúbku a klavír v džezovej kapele, dával Paulovi prvé lekcie hudby sám.
